Grace Chapel is committed to exploring opportunities to serve locally and abroad.
His Work His Way
His Work His Way is a nonprofit Christian ministry and is under the organizational umbrella of Downtown Ministries in Greenville, Pennsylvania. They provide support for community members who are in need of home repairs and are unable to meet those needs without assistance. Working together, in teams consisting of volunteers, students and adults spend a week of their summer completing projects that include painting, home repairs, landscaping, cleaning and minor roofing repairs. Together we serve as a witness to our community by completing projects in a manner that reflects the love of Jesus Christ!
The past two years, Grace Chapel Youth partnered with this ministry to serve our neighbors, Greenville, PA. Our youth and adults were able to participate by working on housing projects such as cleaning, painting, roofing, and landscaping for those who could not afford professional work or were physically unable to do it themselves. The organization completed over 100 projects at 80 different houses in the span of a week both years!
We are excited to partner with them again in 2017!
All students entering the 7th grade and above are eligible to participate. Students who are participating are required to stay at the Thiel dorms for the entire week. Cost is $50 per student which includes all meals daily. You can also take part in this local mission if you are an Adult too! The cost to serve as a volunteer is $85, unless you have children participating. The cost for a household is capped at a $125 for any number of youth and adults. This is a change from previous years as a result of generous contributions received this past year. This is a great opportunity to serve the Lord in a missions capacity without leaving the country. Haiti is a beautiful country, but one that struggles. In 2010, a massive earthquake ravaged the country. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake, and the 50+ aftershocks, affected approximately three million people, leaving over one million people homeless.
In the years since the earthquake, Grace Chapel has developed an amazing partnership with a small village located on the southwestern tip of Haiti, named Pelerin (just north of Les Cayes).
Grace Chapel’s Impact in Pelerin
Pelerin is home to about 2,000 people, who, for several generations, had lived without safe, reliable drinking water. In 2011, Grace Chapel sponsored the restoration of the community’s well and the construction of a reservoir that provides 60,000 liters of purified drinking water. In addition to the completion of the well project, in July of 2012 Grace Chapel sent a ministry team to serve children in Pelerin and a nearby orphanage.
